Zaamin — Uzbekistan's "Switzerland" in a Single Day from Tashkent
A tree that shaded the great-grandparents of today’s locals, a canyon at 2,400 meters, and a mountaintop reception with views for miles — all in a single day from Tashkent, in the opposite direction from the usual Chimgan trip. The Zaamin reserve didn’t earn its “Uzbekistan’s Switzerland” nickname for nothing.
Route
Tashkent → the Zaamin reservoir → the “Grandfather Walnut” tree (around 700 years old) → Zaamin National Park → the Chortanga canyon (2,400 m) → the Sher-Bulak spring → Tashkent.
Why this tour
- An alternative to Chimgan — the Zaamin mountains lie in a different direction and rarely make it into standard programs.
- The “Grandfather Walnut,” roughly 700 years old, is a living witness to history, not just a roadside attraction.
- The optional glass bridge and rope jumping add adrenaline for travelers who want more.
- A flatbread-making workshop and a tandoor-meat tasting pair the nature with real gastronomy.
Itinerary
Early departure from Tashkent, lunch at a national restaurant on arrival. A photo stop at the Zaamin reservoir, then at the ancient “Grandfather” walnut tree. Drive up into the national park to the Chortanga canyon at 2,400 m — a reception with snacks and mountain views. Free time: an optional glass bridge or rope jumping. On the way back: a thousand-year-old juniper, the Sher-Bulak spring, a workshop on making flatbread in a clay oven, and a tandoor-grilled meat tasting. Return to Tashkent in the evening.
