Route
Khiva → Shavat-Dashoguz border → the Karakum desert → Darvaza crater → Khiva.
Day by day
- Meet at the west gate of Ichan-Kala in Khiva, cross the Uzbek-Turkmen border, a light lunch, drive by 4x4 across the Karakum desert (about 4 hours off-road) to the Darvaza crater. Sunset at the crater, a fire-cooked dinner, overnight in a yurt camp.
- Return across the border to Khiva.
