Khiva opens a congress hall and 156-room hotel for international visitors
Khiva has welcomed a new generation of tourism and events infrastructure after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the completed complex in the historic city. According to UzA and president.uz, three major projects have been commissioned: a Congress Hall, a three-star hotel, and the Ichan-Kala Reception House — each adding a distinct layer to what Khiva can offer international visitors and high-level delegations.
The Congress Hall occupies a 1.9-hectare site and is designed as a harmonious blend of contemporary premium architecture and traditional Khorezm decorative motifs. Its facilities are set up for international forums, business conferences, intergovernmental negotiations, and cultural events, placing Khiva firmly on the map for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, events) tourism alongside its heritage appeal.
Next to the Congress Hall, a four-story, 156-room three-star hotel has been built with capacity for 310 guests. UzDaily reports that the hotel features a restaurant, bar, children’s room, terrace, indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, and wellness spaces — a modern comfort level that Khiva’s accommodation offer had been missing until now. The complex as a whole is expected to create around 2,000 new jobs and provide hotel services for up to 50,000 tourists annually.
The third facility — the Khiva Ichan-Kala Reception House, spanning 2 hectares — is designed for official events and welcoming foreign delegations, with its location placing guests within easy reach of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old city walls.
Together, these additions confirm a shift already visible in visitor numbers: Khiva is growing from a one-night Silk Road stopover into a fully equipped multi-day destination ready for the modern international traveller.
