Tashkent hosts the International Ecotourism Summit — a first for Uzbekistan
On 26 August 2026, Tashkent made a milestone entry onto the world’s ecotourism map. The International Summit on Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism convened in the Uzbek capital for the very first time — a distinction previously held only by tourism destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, Vietnam, and Tanzania, as reported by the Uzbek news portal Zamin.uz.
The summit was jointly organised by the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, the International Ecotourism Association, and TGS Travel. Close to 100 leading tour operators, experts, and industry specialists from more than 20 countries gathered to exchange best practices and explore Uzbekistan’s rich natural and heritage tourism potential in depth.
After the official programme concluded, the international delegation set off on a dedicated familiarisation tour through Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara regions — visiting ecotourism sites, national nature reserves, and some of the country’s most celebrated historical monuments. For a country that has been rapidly building its tourism infrastructure, hosting the summit signals growing global recognition of Uzbekistan as a serious destination for responsible, nature-focused travel — not just an ancient Silk Road stopover, but a place where green tourism is being actively shaped for the future.
