Do You Need a Visa for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan
If your route covers several Central Asian countries, check the visa rules for each one separately — they differ quite a bit.
Kazakhstan
One of the most open visa regimes in the region: citizens of more than 50 countries, including most of the EU, the US, the UK, Japan and South Korea, can enter visa-free for up to 30 days.
Kyrgyzstan
A similar picture: citizens of most Western countries enter visa-free for up to 60 days — one of the longest visa-free periods in the region.
Tajikistan
Rules are stricter here: most travelers need an e-visa, applied for online in advance. If your route includes the Pamir Highway (the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region), you’ll also need a GBAO permit — it can be added to the e-visa application.
The main advice
If your trip combines several countries, apply for visas in the order you’ll visit them, with enough lead time — especially for Tajikistan’s GBAO permit.
Visa requirements change — confirm current rules on official embassy websites before your trip.
